Sex and Gender Essay The concepts of sex and gender have traditionally been used interchangeably to demarcate between the identity of the male and the female. However, there are significant differences between the two concepts. Sex as a concept is based based on the perceived material or physiological difference between the male and female bodies, particularly on the anatomy and functions related to the reproductive organs. (Frayser Whitby, 1995, p. 173) Meanwhile, gender refers to the social construct of femininity and masculinity ascribed to the ascribed to the reproductive roles which is reinforced through social norms and expectations. (Ibid. ) Arguably, the notions of sex and gender play an important role in the formation of sexual behavior and gender identity particularly in Western societies. Judith Butler, a known feminist, argues that â€Å"sexual difference is often invoked as an issue of material difference,† (p. 235) which becomes the basis for the social construction of the concept of gender and gender roles in terms of the social, political, and economic functions of the male and female. The role of sex and gender constructs is evident in the child-rearing practices of most Western societies wherein children are socialized into their gender roles based on their sexual identity as being male or female. At an early age, children learn about appropriate sexual behavior through their parents and other adults, who teach them the prevailing gender norms and social expectations Children and adults who do not conform to what is expected of them in terms of their sexual and gender identity, are socially stigmatized through various labels of deviance. As adults, men and women are expected to take on different forms of employment or to engage in differing sexual behavior. Since men are thought to be physically stronger and more intellectually adept, they are often encouraged to be more involved in the social and political spheres. Meanwhile, the perception that women are weaker and more emotional, along with their child-bearing responsibilities, has relegated them into domestic affairs or employment that is related with their supposedly feminine nature such as teaching or nursing. Thus, sex and gender roles influence the way that an individual constructs his or her identity and perceives his or her function in society. By identifying in either the male or female role, the individual develops and internalizes his or her gender roles based on socially accepted norms and standards of behavior. The Potential of the Raà «lian Movement through Humanism The Raà «lian Movement, which began in late 1973, is a relative newcomer to the scene of world religions. While its late arrival has presented some difficulty in drawing followers, the movement has significant promise. The Raà «lian Movement is overtly optimistic in its belief of the innate ability of humans to live prosperous lives. The Raà «lian Movement combines principles of secular humanism effectively with scientific accounts of religious events to create a philosophy that has significant potential. On December 13, 1973, a French man named Claude Vorilhon claimed that he encountered an extraterrestrial being. The alien, called Yahweh, explained that he was a representative of an advanced race of beings, the Elohim, who created humankind is their image via cloning techniques. As an experiment, humanity failed to achieve equilibrium within itself and the world it lived in. Throughout history, the Elohim sent prophets to Earth to guide people’s way of life based on that of the superior race. A primary reason that people failed to achieve that peace is that the prophets, â€Å"whose teachings, actually scientific and not religiously oriented, had been misunderstood.† (Laderman 248) Religions thus misinterpreted the Elohim’s teachings, and their different understandings of them separated humanity. Shortly following his encounter with Yahweh, Vorilhon changed his name to Raà «l, â€Å"The Messenger.† The Elohim told him that he is the 40th and final prophet. When I was eight years old, she invited me to her home for dinner. Afterwards, taking me to her modest kitchen, she asked me to help her wash dishes. She started by telling me the story of how she learned with my great grandmother and today was my opportunity to learn this splendid lesson.This method starts before getting to the sink at the dinning table, by dividing all dishes. At the sink, they are carefully washed with soap and water in a specific order. The process comes to an end by drying and putting everything away. Her rule was never leave dirty dishes over hour in the sink and even worst never leave them for the next day, because it was unhygienic. This of course was many years ago.This process starts at the dinning table; once everyon e has finished eating, they are excuse to leave the table. The first step is to clean all the dishes from leftovers; then the plates are arranged by dimension and they are piled up carefully without making a lot of noise, then all silverware is put together and finally glasses are picked up. Next, all dishes are taken to the sink; the amazing part is that no soaking is required because as soon as everyone is finished, dishes are washed.The next step is to put soap on a sponge and start washing first all glasses as a result; glasses will be free from stains and grease. Consequently, plates are washed with soap and water. Finally, all silverware is washed. All dishes are then rinsed off following the same order glasses, plates and silverware placing them on dish rack. Glasses need to be facing down, so that water runs down from the inside faster, plates are put vertically and silverware can be put vertically or horizontally.Back in the day there was not optional to leave dishes out to dry by them selves, dishes had to be dried with a towel and then placed back in the cabinet. In conclusion, I have to admit that being a housewife is not a easy job, personally I dislike doing dishes not matter which way they are done; oftentimes when I leave dishes overnight I wake up saying to myself Aunt Grace said do dishes within an hour. I reminisce and cherish that moment. It was a very special day.

As I started looking through my Facebook profile, it felt like my account was not very professional when comparing it with other people’s profiles. There are countless posts that might be perceived as aggressive, argumentative, assertive and responsive. I do not believe that my account reflects my shy, well-mannered public self as I am more vocal when I comes to my Facebook profile. Looking through the posts and comments I have made, it seems to be very clear that I have no worries about an employer going through my profile as I believe the decision of whether to hire or not should not depend on one’s social media account. I was very responsive to those who commented, replying to all of them, either defending my point or explaining the rationale behind the statuses. I was showing off my confident personality and treating myself as though I was superior to those around me. Then there was another post saying to â€Å"temporarily withdraw from physical affection of any kind.† The rationale behind that was to keep her wanting more. If you found yourself touching her first a lot, you should withdraw from a significant amount of time. That is unless she initiates it; if she initiates it, do not refuse the touch. This will subconsciously show her how much she needs you. To add onto that, I commented saying you are entitled to her body and it is her job to protect herself from unwanted affection. You should not be wasting your time guessing how much touch she is comfortable with. Start with gentle contact and then escalate quickly. She is there for you to play and enjoy, and it is up to her to determine how much touch she is comfortable with. I gave advices that many people agreed with, including girls. I even remember sometimes girls direct messaged me asking if I knew someone like that.
